Bred in Italy, the red Falstaff pear is a crossing between two older pear breeds: the Abate Fetel and the Cascade a more recent variety. The shape of the Falstaff is elongated with a thick and short wood-like stem. Big in size (220 gr). These pears are easily recognizable thanks to their red hues that extends over 50% of the skin’s surface. The flesh is white/yellow, jucy with thee fine sweet/acid taste. It has very characteristic after taste that vaguely reminds of cinnamon and vanilla. The red Falstaff pear is grown in Emilia Romagna (north east coast of Italy). It is currently produced solely by those producers who belong to Opera consortium.
Fresh Market Award - Product of the Year
Every year the Fresh Market conference awards its „Product of the Year” title to the most innovative product or service in the fruit, vegetable and flower sector. The title of the „Product of the Year 2018” was won by Rijk Zwaan Polska Sp. z o. o. for Knox™ lettuce. In 2019, seven products were nominated for the competition.
